About Shanghai Life

A small game about a big city.

Shanghai Life is a free life simulation game you play in your browser. It's about the ordinary drama of living in one of the world's largest cities: finding work, paying rent, commuting across the river, eating well on a budget, and slowly building a life.

It's made by Jiang Da, an independent developer and urban planner who has worked on Chinese cities for about fifteen years. That background shapes the game: its central question — live far out and commute, or pay more to live near work — is the question millions of real Shanghai residents answer every day.

What's real and what isn't. Districts, landmarks, foods and customs are inspired by Shanghai. Distances, prices, jobs and events are simplified and fictional. All in-game money is virtual and has no real-world value.
